Our second meet was a fun one. Almost everybody tried a new event - many of us swam breaststroke for the first time! In addition to that, we honed our skills with improved starts, turns, and finishes. Swimmers of the Meet are: Olivia, DJ, Bobby, and Paulina.
Olivia tried two new events at this meet: the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle. She swam with 13 and 14 year olds in both events, and she won both events. Olivia's consistent efforts in the pool constantly impress us, and these efforts pay off big time in competition! DJ earned the title because of his outstanding swims in both of his relays and his very close victory in the 50 freestyle! Bobby dropped an AMAZING 36 seconds in his 50 freestyle! He kept his head down and moved quickly through his race! Paulina tried a new event, the 100 breaststroke, and we are so proud of her successes in the pool. We are so impressed by Paulina's enthusiasm and dedication to learning and improving!

Our first official meet of the season was fun! Our returners had great races and our new swimmers improved a lot from the Red and White meet! Swimmers of the Meet are: Gian, Aliyah, Aaliyah, and Ryan.
Gian dropped 22 seconds off of his 50 freestyle from the Red and White meet! He also dropped 4 seconds from his 50 back! He has been really focusing during practice, and it is paying off! Aliyah faced her fears and swam not only her event, the 50 backstroke, but also she stepped up and swam the 50 freestyle as well! She finished both races with a big smile on her face, and we are so proud of what she was able to do! Aaliyah also faced her fears of diving off the block; she shaved many seconds off her diving reaction time and proved to herself that she can accomplish her goals if she trusts herself. Finally, Ryan hit all of his flip turns in the backstroke, even though his group has not covered them yet. It goes to show that he has been paying attention and modeling himself off of the older, more experienced swimmers. We're so proud of all of our swimmers, new and returning; we are looking forward to a great season! Our Red and White Meet last week was a success! Our new athletes and parents learned about how meets are run, how to show good sportsmanship, and how to compete. Ultimately, the Red Team won, so the sea demon statue will be painted red again! Swimmers of the Meet are: Sophia, Amari, Jessica, and Caleb.
Sophia is a returning swimmer who was incredibly helpful at the meet; she showed new swimmers how to line up and cheer during the meet. She also had great dives and dropped time in both of her events! Amari stepped up at the end of the meet, filling in a spot in the backstroke events and being helpful during the meet. Jessica had a great backstroke race, and during her freestyle, she kept her face down like we do in practice. Caleb earned the title for his 25 freestyle. Caleb dropped over 20 seconds from what he was doing in practice! Overall, all swimmers did something to be proud of. Some swam their first races; some overcame their fears of competition; some dropped time; and some learned more about their teammates. We are looking forward to the rest of the season of learning, fun, and competition! |
